PG Marine offer 24/7 performance monitoring!

  • We will monitor and report direct any decrease in the ship’s performance, be it:
    • Excessive fuel consumption.
    • Decreased speed at compared drafts and load conditions.
    • Any other technical parameters that needs prompt attention to ensure a 100% optimized vessel.

  • We offer a proactive approach to the ships performance monitoring find out when it deteriorates not days, month afterwards when it is to late!

  • Ship managers will only support owners reactively - i.e. once there is a reduced earning observed the Ship manager will start to analyse and hopefully give some support-

    • We will support with optimal speed and consumption descriptions - today Ship managers will by default add on a good safety margin which in turn the owners will many times increase when presenting the ship for a charter.

Free your teams time onboard and ashore by collecting all electronic data Automatically and send it free of cost ashore! Minimize risks that manual data collection and transfer can cause.

IF YOU WANT FULL CONTROL HOW THE MONEY IS SPENT!

THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE WITHOUT A RELIABLE AND COST EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE TOOL:

Below is a sort strip explaining how your money is spent - as every US$100 inserted only US$25 do you any good - you must manage how these US$25 are spent!

    • Do you allow the ship to run more generators than required?
    • Do you monitor boiler efficiency over time - a dirty boiler will consume more fuel?
    • Do you monitor hull and propeller efficiency?
    • Do you run the main engine optimal - or is the support functions getting worn or dirty?
    • Do you constantly monitor Fuel and air temperatures and pressures?
    • Can you at any time pull out actual speed and fuel figures and check trends?
    • .................
    • And many more questions that the D-SSP will answer and monitor 24/7 with warnings to your team when base figures mismatch!

    • Why do you leave all the performance management to the team onboard?
    • We all know that they are overloaded with paper work, readings are left to cadets and wipers and at best checked by an engineer before entered into the daily log book!
    • When asking for monthly performance data does the team ashore have time to validate the figures or are they just happy to have received the report and can then "tick" it of from their things to do list?

I have seen reports taken and sent when the ship was in hurricane winds - no one reacted as the report should be sent last week of the month - regardless

I have seen crew log higher engine power then the engine was designed for - NO reaction ashore or onboard - the report was received and that was all that was required.

So take charge have the data sampled automatically from ALL sensors and sent ashore to your own analysing tool OR all Abacus to verify the data and send automatic warning is parameter are out of range!

    CASE STUDIE 1:

    • Collects all electronic data direct from sources - no need to retrofit or install local recorders.
    • Sends all sampled electronic data at no cost.
    • Supports crew with continuous feedback on ships performance.
    • Full management control over vessels performance that allows pro-active action before performance claims arrise.
    • Allows timely planning for hull & propeller cleaning.
    • Sit ashore and Be onboard and actively optimize your vessel.

Meeting laycan by full speed steaming. Saving - "x" amount of day rates.

Charter (Shell) asked us to meet a tight laycan in New Zealand when the vessel was in Singapore.

Looking at the voyage calculations if steaming at the CP speed 13.5 she would miss the timeline.

However, we knew the vessel could easily do 14.5 but how to give the crew support to run at this speed.

With the D-SSP installed in office and onboard, we asked the crew to run at full MCR (Maximum Continuous Rating)

As the D-SSP was installed both on the Bridge and in the ECR (Engine Control Room) the crew could with 100% assurance monitor all temperatures and load on the Main engine and feel comfortable knowing at no time did they ever overload the engine.

the Master even found by changing course he could reduce the load on the engine - this to avoid head-on currents and even find supporting currents.

In the end, the vessel arrived in time and all parties were satisfied - especially the customer

    CASE STUDIE 2:

Accidental comingling of cargoes due to crew mistake - worst case Saving, the value of full cargo (deductible for insurance) and time to spend in court as it for sure could be an arbitration

    .

During discharge operation on an LPG vessel, the crew by mistake opened the wrong valves and cargo got comingled - in this case, went unnoticed by the receiver but it was taken as a training example on how easily things can go wrong.

In case of a claim, it would in this case support owners to calculate to correct volumes lost / mixed but also to take corrective actions to mitigate the claim.

    CASE STUDIE 3:

Reduced claim on a cargo comingling - Saving was substantial

During a voyage, the Cargo tank with part loaded Diesel got contaminated with Gasoline via the IG line that was on a common line and left open by the crew - the gases from the Gasoline cargo was pushed over to the diesel cargo due to sloshing in the cargo tanks due to heavy weather.

To make it worse during discharge cargo receivers decided to pump back a parcel Diesel that had already been discharged - this diesel was not contaminated onboard - but ashore!

We could prove that the volumes pumped ashore were less than the amount returned as we had full historical data on the cargo tank level/volume to the millimeter. As we had both temperature and level recorded over time every minute onboard on the D-SSP computer.

    CONCLUSION:

The value to have historical data, be it cargo tank level, temperatures in holds, containers, engine parameters, and consumptions can never be underestimated.

Have the historical data and you can protect your operation, you will be able to monitor changes over time that gives you information to act in time and not wait until the claim is a fact.

    • Why lose money on a late arrival due to crew not running the ship optimal - have a warning in your office that something is not optimal!
    • Why run more generators than require, why run the Main engine in overload only to waste fuel, why lack control of your cylinder oil consumption, why, why, why?

Ensure you have the data and can act before you are penalized or the damage is a fact!

I'm sure an owner I managed ships for would have cherished a system like this when the speed and consumption figures were evaluated, Instead, they sent unwarranted figures direct from the ship without any verification by the manager to the Charter and agreed to a TC.

After two years suddenly they received a claim equal to US$4 million (yes US$4.000.000) due to over-consumption and to low speed!

Now we can talk about a headache and guaranteed arbitration (still ongoing after 2 years and not settled)

With more than 35 years of experience on ships performance through water ABACUS MARINE  has the widest of experience how to collects and present all electronic data onboard - at no cost, Continuous presentation to the crew and office for optimal onboard performance management of the vessel,

The Sailing performance Assistant (SPA) supports the crew with the vessels performance on a continuous basis and same data is sent to the office, vessel manager, owner, charter as preferred.

SPA is your 24/7 performance analyzing tool and backup monitoring of parameters for the immediate warning should vessels not meet set standards!

Don't risk any speed and consumption claims as a wrong described vessel to a Charter can result in million US$ loss!

Sadly both Owners and Managers tend to lose actual performance data - especially when ships have been taken over.

Seen "sister"* ships been described with huge variables in both speed and consumption and worst was none was correct and ended in a claim from Charter at roughly US$4 million for excessive fuel consumption.

With SPA there is no risk for any such wrong descriptions as you will have data from variable cargo and weather conditions all to optimize your safety margins when describing the ship to a third party.

With its unique sampling logic, the system will generate early warnings to crew and office during occurrence so there is time to act - not as with most systems seen where the mismanagement is noted first when the voyage and damage is done,

ABACUS collected "big data" even before the word existed.

With SPA from Abacus Marine on the New Buildings or existing ships, you can rest assured that you have reliable data when presenting the ship to a client.

Why include excessive safety margins when you have exact data? - In other words, describe the ships at best with minimal safety margin on Speed and Consumption.

Sadly too many owners and managers have absolutely no clue to their owned or managed ships performance, even less monitoring them! Also strange that many are more than "happy" to charter out vessels blindly thrusting manually collected data from ships where we have seen speed and consumption calculation have been done in wrong trim and above BF 5 - so instead of having spot on data to negotiate around, owners lose clients either by too high safety margin or in arbitration due to underperformance.

As it is - Ship managers do not have the time to actively follow the performance of the ship and as all data is manually collected its bound for mistakes.

Also, note most Charter parties today will have a weather clause where the Charter will require the Wind/current clause to be as per data from the various suppliers ashore - so no way to protect a ship unless you have real-time automated data collected onboard.

Below some screen shots from the D-SSPA

Below some screenshots from the D-SSPA which allows the user to build any own trending graphs or desktop - off course Abacus can assist and make a company template but will not "lock" the user to one type and charge bundles of money if any kind of new trends or variables want to be monitored or compared (It is easy to compare Sister ships or any other selected criteria)
